Many women who wear extra large clothing prefer to wear skirts with tops rather than single piece dresses. The reason for this is that it is a lot easier to find separate items that fit difficult body measurements.

Plus Size Formal Blouses

I have to agree that this is a good approach, because my upper half dress size and bottom half simply don’t match. I have a relatively small bust size and a relatively large hip size. This means that while I can’t always squeeze into a size 16 dress, I can easily wear a size 16W skirt together with a size 14 formal or casual blouse.

Wearing a skirt and top is in fact often advantageous when it comes to plus size formal clothing. This is because it is easy to mix and match, for example teaming plain styled skirts with different blouses to create a completely different look – whether this is formal or casual.

Of course plus size formal blouses may be worn during the day, for formal occasions or if you have a job that requires you to always look smart, and for evening events. So when you look for plus size blouses that are suitable for formal wear, you need to be clear in terms of what you want. My approach is always to try and form a wardrobe that has a theme in terms of color and basic style, so that different items can be worn interchangeably. If you get this right you will find that you have an enormous choice of ultimate outfits. For example, take the ubiquitous little black number (which doesn’t actually have to be little, and certainly won’t be if yours is a plus size, like mine). You can team this with so many different colors and styles of jackets and jerseys that you scarcely notice that the black basics recur throughout.

Black is also a great color basic for pants and skirts that you can team with a variety of plus size blouses, both formal and informal. If you buy classic styles – in terms of pants and skirts – and then look for trendy tops, you will be amazed at how you can extend your wardrobe and create a selection of outfits quite literally on a shoestring.

Generally fashion houses will categorize blouses and other clothing in terms of function. So when you go shopping – whether in real life or on the Internet – you will see what they suggest the clothes are suitable for. Often clothing will be separated in different parts of a shop (again both in the real ones and the virtual ones) and you can immediately proceed to the area that attracts you. Categories are variable and might include simply formal and informal, or evening wear, casual wear, or they may be grouped according to a specific designer if one was responsible for creating the range or collection.

So if you are looking for plus size formal blouses, you will obviously browse all the formal clothing that an outlet or manufacturer is offering. Sometimes though, a manufacturer will state that a garment is intended for formal wear or perhaps casual wear, but you may think it is either less or more formal. A lot of designs are on the edge, meaning that you can mix them with other items to define just how formal they actually are. An example in point would be plus size formal blouses that can be teamed with a formal jacket, but are in fact quite casual in their design.

All in all it’s a variable approach, but one that you will find works well when you are looking for plus size blouses that you can team with your favorite pants or skirt.
