How to choose plus size blouses

If you are a plus size lady, which may be anything from a standard size 14 (US), 14W up to 48W or XXXX large, you will probably be shopping around for plus size clothing from time to time. Fortunately the choices available to larger ladies nowadays simply keep increasing. In fact there is so much choice that it can be difficult to know where to start looking and how to choose plus size blouses and other items of clothing.

When I go shopping for plus size blouses, I usually look for designs and colors that will complement what I already have in my wardrobe. That way I can build up items that I can mix and match, ultimately giving me a really wide choice whether I am going out in the evening, relaxing at home, or working at the office.

I have one really nice black leather jacket that I team with dresses, skirts and my new jeggings. I also have a pretty floral jacket that I can wear with my plain dresses and skirts. I have a number of plus size blouses that work under both these jackets, both for evening and day-wear.

Here are some tips that will help you choose plus size blouses for your wardrobe.

  • Start by analyzing what is already in your wardrobe. Make a list, putting each item into categories including the occasion you will wear the garment and what fabric it is made from. Don’t worry if there is a cross-over, for example you might wear a plus size silk tunic in the evening or during the day.
  • Once you have analyzed the clothes you have, identify what you need. For instance if you have three long skirts, do you have plus size blouses that you can wear with them? Instead of just choosing plus size formal or casual tops that appeal to you, make sure that they will work within your wardrobe. Color is an important factor here and it helps to have a color range that is easy to mix and match. This really is a personal choice.

  • Different manufacturers often specialize in certain fabric types, so it is a good idea to identify a suitable material instead of looking at every single type. Alternatively look for newly released collections that feature let’s say plus size satin blouses, or perhaps casual cotton tops.
  • Another very important factor is quality, which may or may not affect price. In fact my advice is to shop for the best quality you can afford, within your price range. Unless you want newly released items of clothing, like that plus size formal blouse or plus size evening blouse you saw featured in a fashion magazine, you will find that good quality clothes are often offered at highly reduced prices. I always wait a season and then buy last year’s fashions. It works for me and I am sure it can work for you too.

  • There are so many different styles of plus size blouses, you need to have some idea of what you enjoy wearing. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing blouses that are relatively tight fitting, then stick to loose tunics and use a trendy belt to give it some shape and style.
  • The same applies to different necklines and whether you opt for plus size blouses with sleeves or prefer to wear those that are sleeveless. There is no point in feeling uncomfortable either because of the way the blouse fits, or because of the way it looks. I personally don’t like wearing sleeveless tops, because I feel uncomfortable about what my arms look like. I am much happier wearing loose long sleeves as well.
