In terms of a color, there are a few tricks. First, it is never appropriate to wear white or ivory to your son’s wedding—or anyone else’s wedding but your own, for that matter. Black, while possibly the most slimming color for plus-size women, is not appropriate for your son’s wedding. People will think you’re in mourning. If you would like to wear a darker color, try navy blue or forest green. However, make sure that whatever color you choose is not the same color as the one the bridal party is wearing. Check with your daughter-in-law to find out what color dresses her bridesmaids will be wearing. It’s also a nice gesture to find out what color the mother of the bride is going to wear, so the two of you don’t show up in the same color.
